- INTRODUCTION
-
- These worksheets are designed to be used as a guide on monetary
- values for option contracts. No warranty or guarantee of any kind
- is expressed or implied, and liability for all losses resulting
- from their use will rest solely with their user.
-
- These worksheets are distributed under the shareware principle.
- If you find them of value, please feel free to send us $5.00 for
- the trouble of their development. If you have no need of them,
- pass them on, but do so without modification, please.
-
- If you are trading option contracts with 32 points per $1000, use
- the 32OPTION.WKS file, at 64 points per $1000, use 64OPTION.WKS.
- Their operation is identical, only the math is altered to allow
- for the different point values.
-
- We will not even attempt to offer any instruction on commodity
- trading. However, if you are trading commodities, you may find
- these worksheets useful in translating commodity points into
- cash, profits, losses, and yields. They can also be used as a
- guide for decision making.
-
- Commodity option trading takes place in "points". Converting
- these points into dollars, adding commissions and exchange fees,
- and attempting to calculate breakevens from dollars back into
- points can be exhausting. This is especially true if you do day
- trading and/or require very quick decisions. These worksheets
- handle these calculations for you. By entering three values, you
- can determine the dollar value of a purchase. One more entry can
- project the value of your holdings over a range as the market
- moves up or down. Entry of another value when you sell your
- contract(s), will calculate profit (or loss) and yield on the
- total investment, including commissions and exchange fees.

-
- WORKSHEET OPERATION
-
- Call up the appropriate worksheet into your 1-2-3 program. You
- will notice that B1 through B5 are highlighted. These cells are
- unprotected, the sheet is otherwise entry-protected to prevent
- accidental overwriting of formulae. Cells B1 through B5 are the
- only cells in which you will make entries.
-
- B1: Current value of the option contract in points. On a 64 point
- sheet, 63 + 1 = 100. On a 32 point sheet, 31 + 1 = 100. The sheet
- will handle this strange addition for you in it's calculations,
- but you _M_U_S_T enter the points correctly as quoted by your broker.
- If you enter 67 points, the calculations may be incorrect, and
- you could make a perfectly good decision based on extremely bad
- data! This could mean that you and your shirt soon part company!
- This entry will result in a per contract dollar value in B7.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- B2: The number of option contracts you wish to purchase. This
- factor multiplies the contract values and commission values to
- obtain totals. This entry will multiply the per contract value in
- B7 to show total value of all contracts in B9. It will also
- multiply the per contract commission from B3 and display the
- total commissions in B8. B8 and B9 are totaled into B10.
-
- B3: Commission per contract. Consult your broker's rate schedule
- for this figure. Sometimes it will be based on the number of
- contracts, the expiration date of the contracts, and the value of
- each contract. U.S. Treasury Bond trading on the Chicago Board of
- Trade will cost you $.16 per contract to buy and sell, adding
- $.32 to the cost of each contract. Add this in as if it were part
- of the commission.
-
- You will now have a total investment amount in B10. This is the
- dollar figure involved in making this purchase. If it is too high
- or too low, adjust B2 to buy more or fewer contracts. (Don't
- forget to adjust B3 if commissions rates depend on the number of
- contracts.)
-
- B4: This is the fun part! Enter the point value you believe this
- option will settle on. The right half of the sheet will show you
- your selected value and 1 point incremented values above. You can
- directly read your profit (or loss) and the effective yield of
- your trade. Commissions and exchange fees are considered as
- costs, so the profit (or loss) figure represents TRUE profit (or
- loss), and the yield percentage is an absolute yield. You could
- enter a figure below your purchase point value to indicate where
- you may wish to issue a Stop Loss Order based on a dollar figure.
- Use the value in B12 as a guide, it will show the minimum point
- value at which you must sell all contracts to avoid a loss. Of
- course, most traders will buy contracts and sell some when they
- reach a certain value to cover losses if the others drop in
- value. We may develop the sheets to allow for complex trading,
- but these will do until then.
-
- B5: Enter the point value at which all option contracts actually
- sold. B14 and B15 will show you the good (or bad) news. Dollar
- amounts in parentheses indicate negative figures. Money was made
- on these transactions, but NOT BY YOU! TSK TSK.
-
- We are members of an investment club. There is room currently for
- a few more (limited by law), but it will fill fast. Membership
- requires a minimum initial investment of $1000. As with any type
- of investing, there is serious risk involved, but serious profits
- can also be made. The manager has a computerized downlink direct
- from the trading exchange. If you are interested and need more
- information, call (612) 888-1786 after 2:30 P.M. Central Time.
-
- PLEASE, NO CURIOSITY CALLS!
